Congonhas Airport (IATA: CGH, ICAO: SBSP) is a domestic airport located in the central region of the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The airport is one of the busiest in the country, with around 20 million passengers a year.


Inaugurated in 1936, the airport is managed by Infraero (Empresa Brasileira de Infraestrutura Aeroportuária) and has two landing and takeoff runways, one of which is used exclusively for landings and the other for takeoffs.


Congonhas Airport has a passenger terminal divided into two sectors, the Domestic Terminal and the General Aviation Terminal. The domestic terminal has more than 30 airlines and offers flights to several cities in Brazil, as well as international flights to some countries in South America. The General Aviation Terminal is used by private and executive aircraft.


Regarding accidents, Congonhas Airport was the scene of two of the most serious air accidents in the history of Brazil. The first occurred on July 17, 2007, when a TAM airliner plane, with 186 people on board, failed to stop on the landing strip and collided with a building belonging to the company itself, killing all the people on board and 12 others.
